Grad-Blog
The End
I've finished graduate school for now. I'm getting out with a Master's degree. That means this is the last I will write on this blog. For now, my online presence will be
centered here.
I hoped that graduate school would have provided more material to write about, but in truth graduate school is not all that glamorous nor exciting. I also don't like getting too personal on the Web, which kinda defeats the purpose of blogging. Sorry for the sucky blog. Anyway, maybe in my new life as a normal person I'll have things to blog about, but don't hold your breath.
Update I've moved yet again to
chrisjcowan.com.
Live from Howth
My friend
Louis in Ireland has put up a
video of an excursion to Howth. Check it out, it's fun for most of the family.
Movie Rant
Last November (which is about the last time I posted here) I broke down and bought a generic $35 DVD player. I've never been much of a movie watcher, but I decided I would watch all those classic movies I always hear about. So I got a
Netflix account and started watching. I'm a little late in comming to this and I'm not saying anything new, but Citizen Kane is an amazing movie. It has all the technical brilliance of a Kubric movie, but avoids being boring. Citizen Kane also has the best transitions I've ever seen. Why didn't I watched it earlier?
Class Websites
I find that class websites run by the professor are helpful, especially when they update them frequently with info about the course, class notes, and assignments. Unfortunately, I get distracted, lazy or both and forget to check the sites often enough. Like today, while checking whether there's an assignment in my statistics class for the Monday after Thanksgiving, I find out that there's an assignment that I was unaware of due in a few hours (D'oh!). Now if only profs would start using RSS feeds.
Good For a Laugh
Just for grins I was looking through my junk email at an old abandoned Yahoo! account of mine (used long before the advent of gmail), and I was duly rewarded. There was a spam, from a one Nicholas Langley, titled "why did you tell everybody i had aids?".
Hey, That's Mine!
Today I arrived at school and locked my bike up in its normal place. Then I realize that the bike a couple rungs over on the rack looks awfully like the bike someone stole from me a year ago. If I had the time I would have waited around for its "owner" to come back, but I had a class to go to. After the class I passed by again, and it was gone. It's kinda weird to see your stolen bike.
Trick or Treat?
As I am writing this, some people at my apartments are having a Halloween party in the building across the pool. It's still September people. I mean, if you had it tomorrow it wouldn't be so bad. At least it would be in October. And I though some people put up Christmas decorations too early.
Speaking of Halloween, I think this year I won't have any candy. So when a kid comes to the door and says "Trick or Treat!", I'll say "I don't have any treats, so you'll have to go with the trick." Let's see what happens when I call their bluff.
